The impact of start-stops on the thickness lubricating films in Elasto-Hydrodynamic Lubrication (EHL) contacts grease lubricated rolling bearings is different from that oil bearings. This paper shows film drops to zero quickly due absence hydrodynamic effects during a stop. It increases an unexpected large value when bearing stopped for long time and started up again, although this only lasts very short time. additional track replenishment stop leading initially thicker than expected. increase found be determined by rotational speed bearing, stop-time, base viscosity width contacts. start-stop effect similar unidirectional oscillating speeds, provided stopping enough.
